The beginnings of the club

Everton Football Club was founded in 1878. It is a club that is based around Liverpool (city in England). Everton is also known as The Blues, The Toffees, The People’s Club, etc. The club ended up winning their first league title in 1890-91 season with 29 points

Dixie Dean

Everton had their superstar player, Dixie Dean. During the 1927/28 season, Dixie Dean scored a whopping 60 goals and carried the club to their 3rd league title with 20 wins, 13 draws, and 9 loses. Dixie Dean also carried Everton to 2 more silverware, the 1931/32 league title and the 1932/33 FA Cup.

The Golden era

After the downfall of Everton football club in the 40s/50s, Everton rose back in the 1960s. Harry Catterick became head coach and Everton won the league in 1962-63. They won the FA Cup in 1966 and later won the league championship again in 1970, 9 points clear of Leeds United. Everton did go on a decline after Catterick retired from head coach and finished bottom table for a few seasons.

3rd Successful era

That decline did not last long, and Everton were back to their best in the 80s. The best season for the club was probably the 1984-85 season where they almost won the treble, 1984-85 League title, 1984-85 FA Cup runners-up, and the 1984-85 Cup Winners’ Cup which is now known as the UEFA Europa League.

Everton recent history

Since the creation of the Barclays Premier League in 1992, Everton has only won the FA Cup (1995). They also made the UCL group stages in 2007-2008 but failed to make it out of the group. They finished 5th in the PL in 2013-14, also made it to the UEL round of 16 in 2016 but did not win any silverware. Even worse, Everton became relegation contenders for 2 straight seasons (2021-22, 2022-23).

Overview

Everton are definitely one of the greatest English teams, ever to compete. Everton are a club that have a ton of history, a club that did not get good because of money. They arent the best team at the moment, but were certainly one of the best teams in the past. This makes Everton, one of the greatest teams to ever compete in this sport and I think they deserve more recognition.
